Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers.

The Ruins of Shadespire

It goes against the grain for me to play a game without scenery and Shadespire is no different. So to finish the core set off I bought some simple hexes from eBay and raided the bits box.

There's really nothing special about the construction or painting here: it really is just junk thrown together. The only actual modelling was cutting and filling the statue and making the flagstones for the statue base out of sheet styrene.

Anyway, the set is now complete and I'm fairly happy. Time to see if the game is any Good!

Garrek's Reavers

After finishing the Stormcast half of the box set it didn't take long to get on to the Khorne flakes.

These were, again, nicely sculpted minis with a great sense of movement and dynamism so I didn't see much point in converting them.

The game is now almost ready to play fully painted except.... well there are those impassable hexes...

Steelheart's Champions

In need of a little project with a definite start and end, I picked up the Shadespire box set; 8 miniatures and 6 hexes of terrain to build and then It's done.

So here's the first of the warbands from the box - who will obviously double up as an age of Sigmar Skirmish warband.

For the palette I took my cue from the italianate baroque masks the Stormcasts have been saddled with and looked at Venetian Carnival costumes. From there I got the green and gold with purple and turquoise accents.

Strictly speaking, following this the masks themselves should be white but I HATE THEM SO MUCH I didn't want to draw attention to them.

Painting was very simple- a zenith prime followed by a thin glaze of dark green then a drybrush of yellow-green. The whole then had a green wash added as a filter to tie it all together.

The bases were painted using the same techniques and palette as the various bits of scenery I've been doing for Caliburn Fell which also happens to match the Shadespire boards.

As an aside the bases in this kit are bloody brillant.

Enjoyed these and the Khorne nutters are next.

Raiders of the Lost Hive II

Just to keep this ticking over we played the first two games of the Shadow Wars Armageddon campaign at school.

The first was in the upper hive, the second in the Underhive. Down below, the Plague marines beat the Imperial Guard while, up above, the Tau and Space Wolves fought tons draw. The next two matches are both underhive slugfests.
