Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers.

Bits and Pieces and the Next Gen

As I said a while ago, although the blog lay fallow for a few weeks, I was busy.

First, I finished off the Silver Tower set:

And I also started playing Silver Tower with the eldest.

Who, around the time of Halloween asked if I had any skeletons; I raided the bits box and made him these:

He also chose the colour scheme for these, which I have taken to calling the Hounds of Liberace:

Finally, and possibly most importantly; we popped into the local GW to pick up some supplies and the manager gave him a tester miniature to paint, which he duly did: so here is my five year old's first painted and based miniature:

He's asked for some more :)

The Mistweaver

Nothing fancy on this one. No conversions, no new techniques, just a straight go at completing another character from the Warhammer Quest game; this time an Elf.

NOBODY TOSSES A DWARF

Another Silver Tower Hero, this time a Dwarf.

He basically seems to be souped up Trollslayer so I painted him as such. This guy is basically for my wife as whenever we play any of these sorts of games, she always plays the dwarf*.

Very happy with this guy for, again, a very simple paint job.

*and yes, Gimli is her favourite thing about The Lord of the Rings.

What is best in life?

"Conan. What is best in life?"

"To crush your enemies. See them driven before you. Hear the lamentations of their women."

This is another of the Heroes from the Silver Tower set and he is, quite simply, one of the most glorious miniatures I've ever seen. A real joy to paint.

The face is full of character, so I took a bit of time over it.

You can see a touch of the Blanchistus here with the check pattern on his loincloth.

Lord of Change

Here are the last two bad guys for my Silver Tower set, the Ogroid Thaumaturge:

And the Gaunt Summoner.

I am actually properly proud of the Gaunt Summoner. He's probably the best paint job I've done in a while and pulls together all the techniques and colours I've been using across the Tzeentch models from this set.

I still have a few of the heroes to complete but that's enough to play the game! So expect a play report soon.

Rats in the Walls

The two Skaven Deathrunners from Silver Tower: this was a little annoying as, for gameplay reasons, the two miniatures had to be identical - and I hate having duplicates.

The big experiment here was in using some more of the Fluorescent paints in order to create the idea of a glowing warpstone dagger:

Not many to go now!

The Beast In Me

The beast in me
Has had to learn to live with pain
And how to shelter from the rain
And in the twinkling of an eye
Might have to be restrained
God help the beast in me

-Johnny Cash

Beastmen have always been interesting and the Silver Tower gives us birdy-beastmen in the shape of the Tzangors.

Unfortuntely, I don't have any WIP shots of these as I was racing along trying to meet my self imposed target of finishing the entire Silver Tower box before the end of the easter holidays. I did again convert them all so that there were no duplicates.

They were painted in the same way as the other Tzeentch figures; washes and glazes and a lot of grime and corrosion on the metals.

And here's all the followers of the Changer of Ways in one group:
